• Lions Gate Films acquires new Rupert Everett movie
  Variety reports that Lions Gate Films has acquired North American rights to A Different Loyalty, a romantic thriller starring Rupert Everett and Sharon Stone that reunites Everett with his Another Country director, Marek Kanievska. The new film is set in 1963 and centers on a woman's search for her missing husband, a journalist and part-time spy. "The Eye" Makes Top Four in Week Two.

Lionsgate Films new release "The Eye" registered a top five listing for highest grossing movies in the box office week for the second week in a row for the weekend beginning February 8th. Earning more than 6.6million dollars in only the second week after it's release, "The Eye" rounded out the top four behind "Hannah Montana", "Welcome Home Roscoe Jones", and "Fool's Gold" taking the top spot among New Releases.

Policy on shareholder Communication

The lionsgate board of governers recognises the importance of shareholders committee to be able to communicate directly with the board. In respect to that, the board has developed a communications policy to facilitate these communications.

Shareholders wishing to communicate with the board and recommending director nominees may do so by writing to any or all non-employee directors care of the corporate secretary as either of the principal executive officers.

Lionsgate Poised

Lionsgate, the movie and television company, is soon expected to join the growing ranks of production houses that have signed independent deals with the Writers Guild of America.

A deal is expected in the next day or so, according to people who have been briefed on the matter but requested anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak. Lionsgate produces Showtime’s “Weeds” and distributes AMC’s “Mad Men.”

The Weinstein Co. and United Artists are among those that have already signed independent deals. The agreements are designed to be superseded by any deal ultimately reached between the striking writers and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

IFC pacts for Lionsgate films - Network pays $12 million for 70 movies

The Independent Film Channel has shelled out about $12 million for a package of 70 movies from Lionsgate, many of them TV premieres in the first network window.

"Away From Her," the drama that earned Julie Christie an Oscar nomination, premieres on IFC in the summer of 2010. IFC will get a few other Lionsgate titles later in their network-window run, including "Crash," "Pride" and the "Saw" movies. (FX gets the premiere of "Crash," TNT has the debut of "Pride" and Sci Fi Channel has first dibs on the "Saw" movies.)

"This is one of the biggest movie deals we've ever made," said Evan Shapiro, executive VP and GM of IFC. (IFC opened for business in September 1994.)

The IFC deal represents Lionsgate's third big movie sale in the last four months. The studio harvested $20 million from USA and Sci Fi Channel for "3:10 to Yuma," "Saw II" and "Good Luck Chuck," among other titles. And it chalked up $12 million from Turner's TBS and TNT for four pictures, including two by Tyler Perry: "Why Did I Get Married" and "Daddy's Little Girls."

On the IFC deal, Rand Stoll, executive VP of TV sales for Lionsgate, cited the long-term relationship between Lionsgate and IFC, most notably Lionsgate's production of the "Mad Men" series for IFC's sister network AMC.

Although the Lionsgate movies will kick off on IFC, Shapiro said that some of them will eventually get runs on AMC, WE TV and Fuse. All three networks are part of Rainbow
Programming Services, which is owned by Chuck Dolan's Cablevision Systems.

In addition to what Shapiro calls "complex and challenging movies" for IFC's "educated, upscale audience," IFC also is buying horror movies including the "Hostel" franchise, "The Descent" and Rob Zombie's "House of 1000 Corpses." "Our viewers love movies that go against traditional mores," says Shapiro.

Other IFC premieres from Lionsgate include "Bug," with Ashley Judd; "Slow Burn," with Ray Liotta; and "Fierce People," with Diane Lane.

IFC gets these movies following their exclusive pay-TV window on Showtime, which has a theatrical- output deal with Lionsgate.

Lionsgate Goes For Conan

Nu Image/Millennium Films has made a North American distribution rights deal with Lionsgate for a new film series based on the Robert E. Howard-created character Conan the Barbarian. The first film will be written by the team of Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer ("Sahara," "Cowboys & Aliens"). Pic will be produced by Lerner, Boaz Davidson, Joe Gatta, Paradox Entertainment's Fredrick Malmberg, George Furla and Henry Winterstern. Trevor Short and Dimbort are exec producers. Pic is earmarked to begin production later this year, but the start date will depend on the resolution of the writers strike.

WGA Strike Nearing An End?

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) may be nearing the end of their strike with major Hollywood studios.



Our sister site Entertainment News International is reporting that union officials and studio representatives have been passing draft contracts between both sides.

The WGA is still locked in arguments with most major studios despite reaching agreements with Lionsgate Films, Marvel Studios, United Artists, and The Weinstein Company. WGA has been on strike since November 5, 2007.

LOS ANGELES - Vancouver-based Lions Gate and Marvel studios have signed interim deals with the striking Writers Guild of America, the union said Thursday.
The deals followed separate guild pacts with other independent production companies such as United Artists, The Weinstein Co. and David Letterman's Worldwide Pants.
The guild said such agreements confirm it's possible for writers to be compensated fairly and for companies to operate profitably.
Lions Gate's new projects include Sylvester Stallone's "Rambo" sequel, "Saw 5" and the TV show "Mad Men."
Upcoming comic-book film projects from Marvel Studios, a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment Inc., include "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk."

It is Saturday February 2nd and Lion Gate Movie new release 'The Eye is already doing well in the theatres all over North America.
Well It is in second place after Hanna Montana's film which is already at the $29 million mark. THe eye is placed second with sales of $13 million, not too bad I'd say.

Well it can be said it is time to get back and start looking for more talent. Lions Gate has picked up another movie to be marketed and sold by LGF. 'Dead Noon' is a comic horror movie of its shot by up and coming fimmaker Andrew Wiest. "The budget for the whole thing was exactly $4000" said the movie director Andrew Wiest, as they could not spend more on it.

Wiest will later be heading for Holliwood where Lions Gate will be reframing 'Dead Noon' along with a hig profile artist to enhance its image. Get a glimpse

Brash Announces SAW Videogame - Another movie cash-in or survival horror contender?

Rejoice, torture porn fans! Brash Entertainment has heard your desperate pleas for more graphic violence and more disturbing imagery in this current soft and snuggly climate of video gaming.
Enter SAW -- a videogame based off the popular series of hyperviolent horror/suspense movies. Announced today, the new title is under development at Brash Entertainment in association with both Lions Gate Films and Twisted Pictures, with creative input from SAW series creators Leigh Whannell and James Wan.
A short press release from Brash declares that the title will "pull no punches" delivering "the horrifying suspense and disbelief that has floored fans worldwide!" It also mentions that SAW will be built using the Unreal 3 engine and is currently in development for next-gen platforms only.
A small website promoting the game is currently up at www.whoisjigsaw.com -- though sadly it seems to largely consist of a news signup form and some rotating images right now.
Considering that the SAW franchise in general has successfully carved out a (particularly bloody) niche in the world of established horror with $500 million in sales and 15 million DVDs sold to date, there's every reason to believe that a well-executed game based on the same proposition could find some resonance in gaming's survival horror canon. Naturally, the absence of Wii controls seems a rather glaring omission in a title like SAW, but considering how bungled the application of a similar concept (not to mention the ensuing media frenzy) was in Manhunt 2, it's probably for the best.
We're sure the Parents Television Council will have plenty to say about this one -- though as we all know, baroque first person interactive jaw breaking contraptions must necessarily take a back seat to tastefully presented sex when it comes to the world of real media controversy.

Good deal for LGF

Lions' Gate Films (LGF) entered into an amendment agreement to the right of first refusal with a California based corporation Sobini Films on the December 20, 2007. Under the terms of the amendments the LGF represented by a director Mark Amin will until December 31, 2008 receive a 5% fee from Sobini on all of Sobini Film's international sales of motion pictures for annual sales of upto Ten Million Dollars. 'Mad Men' wins at the Golden Globes

Challenging and dark, "Mad Men" is a patient exercise in riveting television -- and the Golden Globes noticed.
The series, recently picked up by CTV, won two awards Sunday night.
"Mad Men" picked up the award for "Best TV series, Drama," beating out "Grey's Anatomy" and "House."
The series made its debut last year in the U.S. on "AMC."
Jon Hamm, who stars in the series as Don Draper, the creative director for Sterling Cooper advertising agency, picked up the Golden Globe for "Best actor, TV series drama."
"Mad Men" follows the lives of the ruthlessly competitive men and women of advertising in New York City.
